Donate a damaged car in Daytona Beach – yes, it still qualifies

In the Daytona Beach Area with a car that’s dented, rusty, storm-damaged, or has a cracked windshield? You can still donate it through BeachMoto Aid. No repairs, free pickup, full tax receipt.

If you’re in the Daytona Beach Area staring at a car with dents, rust, accident damage, or a cracked windshield and wondering, “Can I really donate this?”, the answer is yes. With BeachMoto Aid, body damage does NOT disqualify your vehicle. We work with Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3), to accept cars in any cosmetic condition across Daytona Beach, Holly Hill, Ormond Beach, Port Orange and beyond. You don’t have to fix a thing, and towing is free.

Here’s how it works in Florida: after your damaged vehicle is picked up from your driveway, apartment lot, or repair shop, it’s sold at auction or for parts, depending on its condition. The donation value isn’t based on how pretty it looks – it’s based on the actual sale proceeds. A heavily damaged or rusty car may bring a lower sale price, which can mean a smaller deduction, but your guaranteed written receipt will be for at least $500. If it sells for more, your deduction can be higher under IRS rules. Either way, you avoid repair costs, free up space, and support services for people who are blind or visually impaired, all from right here in the Daytona Beach Area.

How to get your free pickup scheduled

1

1. Tell us about your damaged vehicle

Share the basics: year, make, model, where it’s located around Daytona Beach, and the type of damage (dents, rust, accident, cracked glass, or storm damage). It’s okay if it doesn’t run. We’ll confirm it qualifies, explain how the tax deduction works, and answer your questions before you commit.

2

2. Schedule your free Daytona Beach Area pickup

Choose a pickup time that works for you around Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, South Daytona, or nearby. Towing is free, even if the car is undrivable or missing body panels. The licensed tow partner meets you (or your designated contact) and handles loading, so you don’t need to move or repair the car.

3

3. Prepare the title and remove personal items

Before the truck arrives, clear out personal items and locate your Florida title. If you’re missing the title, let us know in advance so we can explain the options that may be available. At pickup, you’ll sign over ownership correctly and keep a copy of the tow receipt for your records.

4

4. We transport, evaluate, and sell your damaged car

Your vehicle goes to an auction or licensed buyer that handles damaged and salvage units. Cosmetic issues like dents, rust, or cracked glass don’t stop the process. The actual sale price, not appearance alone, determines the final donation amount that supports Heritage for the Blind’s programs.

5

5. Receive your tax receipt (minimum $500)

After the sale, you’ll receive a written tax receipt. Even if your damaged car sells for a low amount, your receipt is guaranteed at $500. If it sells for more than $500, you may be able to deduct the higher amount using IRS Form 1098-C, following current IRS rules for charitable vehicle donations.

6

6. Enjoy a clear driveway and a clear conscience

Once the damaged car is gone from your driveway in places like LPGA, Pelican Bay, or along International Speedway Boulevard, you’re free of repair headaches, storage issues, and insurance worries. You’ve turned a problem vehicle into meaningful support for people living with vision loss through Heritage for the Blind.

Potential complications to watch for

Heavy structural damage can lower your potential deduction

Tip: If your car has frame damage, severe rust-through, or major collision damage, it will likely sell for less, which may reduce the potential tax deduction above $500. You still receive at least a $500 receipt, but it’s smart to keep realistic expectations about higher-value write-offs.

Missing title can delay pickup or limit options

Tip: In Florida, a clear title is usually required to complete a donation. If you’ve lost it, contact us before scheduling pickup. We can walk you through checking with the Florida DHSMV and what’s possible in your specific situation so your Daytona Beach donation doesn’t get held up unnecessarily.

Existing loans or liens must be resolved first

Tip: If a bank or lender is still listed on the title, the donation can’t move forward until the lien is released. Contact your lender to obtain a lien satisfaction or updated title. Once the lien is cleared, we can proceed with scheduling free towing anywhere in the Daytona Beach Area.

Personal plates and belongings are your responsibility

Tip: Before your car leaves your driveway in areas like Midtown, Beachside, or Ponce Inlet, remove your Florida license plate and all personal items. This helps avoid DMV issues and ensures you keep anything important. The tow driver focuses on moving the damaged car; they can’t search it for valuables.

FAQ

My car has major dents and a crumpled fender from a crash. Can I still donate it in Daytona Beach?
Yes. BeachMoto Aid can accept vehicles with significant accident damage, including dented panels, bent doors, or crumpled fenders. The car does not need to be drivable or safe to operate. As long as we can arrange legal transfer and towing, your wrecked car can still be donated with free pickup and a full tax receipt.
There’s rust on the body and undercarriage from living near the beach. Is that a problem?
Surface rust and even more advanced corrosion are common in coastal areas like Daytona Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea. Rust does not disqualify your car from donation. It may reduce the ultimate sale value, but the vehicle can still be picked up at no cost to you and converted into support for Heritage for the Blind.
Can I donate if my windshield is cracked or all the glass is broken?
Yes. Cracked or shattered glass is a common issue after storms, vandalism, or accidents. Your car can still be donated with a broken windshield or other glass damage. The tow company will handle it safely. You are not required to replace any glass or make repairs before we arrange pickup in the Daytona Beach Area.
What if the car doesn’t run or was totaled by my insurance company?
Non-running and totaled vehicles are accepted. Whether the engine is blown, the car was flooded in a storm, or your insurer declared it a total loss, you can still donate it. We’ll coordinate free towing from your home, storage lot, or body shop in and around Daytona Beach and guide you on any title notations or salvage branding.
How is my tax deduction calculated if the car is badly damaged?
The deduction is generally based on the actual sale price of the vehicle, not what it used to be worth before the damage. You’ll receive a guaranteed receipt for at least $500. If the damaged car sells for more than $500, your paperwork will reflect that amount and may require IRS Form 1098-C for your records.
Do I need to fix any body damage before donating?
No repairs are needed. In fact, putting money into cosmetic or even structural repairs often doesn’t increase the sale price enough to be worthwhile. You can donate the car exactly as it sits—dented, rusty, with cracked glass or missing panels—and we’ll arrange free pickup anywhere in the Daytona Beach Area.
Where in the Daytona Beach Area can you pick up a damaged car?
We can arrange free towing from most locations in and around Daytona Beach, including Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Port Orange, South Daytona, New Smyrna Beach, and nearby communities. Pickup can be from your home, workplace, storage yard, or repair shop, as long as the tow truck can safely access the vehicle.
