Donate Your Car by Dec 31 in the Daytona Beach Area

In the Daytona Beach Area, the IRS counts the day your car is actually picked up. Schedule now so BeachMoto Aid and Heritage for the Blind can tow it free by Dec 31 and lock in this year’s deduction.

To claim your car donation on this year’s taxes, the IRS goes by the date the vehicle is physically picked up – not the day you call, schedule, or fill out the form. Your car must be towed away on or before December 31 to count for this tax year. That’s why we urge Daytona Beach donors to schedule pickup at least 3–5 business days before Dec 31. BeachMoto Aid partners with Heritage for the Blind for free, fast pickup Monday–Saturday, even during the holiday season.

Serving the entire Daytona Beach Area – from Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, and South Daytona to Port Orange, Daytona Beach Shores, and nearby communities – we make your year-end donation simple. No inspections. No repairs. Non-running vehicles are welcome; we’ll tow them at no cost to you. After your car sells, Heritage for the Blind mails your written acknowledgment (and IRS Form 1098-C for vehicles over $500), but your deduction year is locked in as of the pickup date. Donate before year-end, clear space in your driveway, and help fund vital services for people who are blind or visually impaired – all with one quick call or 2-minute online form.

Your year-end donation timeline

Start your donation in 2 minutes

2 minutes

Complete our simple online form or call our Daytona Beach Area donation line with your car’s basic info and location (home, work, or a shop). It truly takes about two minutes and there’s no obligation or pressure.

2

Choose a pickup day before Dec 31

5 minutes

Tell us you need the donation to count for this tax year. We’ll offer pickup windows Monday–Saturday around Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, South Daytona, Port Orange and nearby – aiming for a date at least 3–5 business days before Dec 31.

3

Get your pickup confirmed

Same day

Once we schedule your tow, you’ll receive a confirmed date and time window. This is your countdown to locking in your deduction. Remember: the IRS uses the actual pickup date, so keep this appointment and call us quickly if you need to adjust.

4

Prepare your title and keys

10–15 minutes

Before our driver arrives, locate your Florida title and keys. We’ll walk you through where to sign. In most Daytona Beach Area pickups, you don’t need to be present if paperwork is signed in advance – we’ll coordinate what works for you.

5

Vehicle towed by Dec 31, deduction locked

Pickup day

Our professional towing partner picks up your vehicle for free anywhere in the Daytona Beach Area. As long as it’s physically towed away on or before Dec 31, your donation counts for this tax year, even though the receipt arrives later.

6

Receive your tax acknowledgment

After vehicle sells

Heritage for the Blind processes the sale and mails your written acknowledgment, plus Form 1098-C when the sale value exceeds $500. Keep it with your tax records and claim your deduction for the year in which the car was picked up.

Year-end tax deduction facts

Pickup date = deduction year

For vehicle donations, the IRS considers the donation made on the day your car is actually picked up. If the tow happens by December 31, it counts for that tax year, even if your receipt arrives weeks later.

Form 1098-C for vehicles over $500

When your donated vehicle sells for more than $500, Heritage for the Blind issues IRS Form 1098-C. This form shows the gross proceeds from the sale and is used to support the deduction on your federal tax return.

You must itemize on Schedule A

To claim a federal deduction for your car donation, you generally need to itemize deductions on Schedule A instead of taking the standard deduction. A tax professional can help you decide which option benefits you more.

30-day written acknowledgment rule

By IRS rules, the charity must send a written acknowledgment within 30 days of the vehicle’s sale or significant use. BeachMoto Aid’s partner, Heritage for the Blind, mails this acknowledgment for you to keep with your tax records.

Deduction usually equals sale price

In most cases, your deductible amount is the actual sale price of the vehicle, not a price guide value. Your acknowledgment or Form 1098-C will list that amount. There are limited exceptions; consult a tax advisor for details.

FAQ

If my pickup is scheduled by Dec 31 but happens in January, which tax year is it?
For IRS purposes, the donation date is the day your vehicle is actually picked up, not when you call or schedule. If your Daytona Beach Area pickup rolls into January, it will normally count for next year’s taxes. To use this tax year, make sure the tow occurs by December 31.
How late in December can I call and still make the deadline?
We recommend contacting us at least 3–5 business days before December 31 so we can guarantee a pickup window in time, especially around Daytona Beach’s busy holiday period. We do operate Monday–Saturday during the season, but slots fill up. The earlier you call, the easier it is to secure a pre–Dec 31 tow.
Can I donate a non-running or damaged car before year-end?
Yes. We accept non-running and damaged vehicles and tow them free throughout the Daytona Beach Area. The condition doesn’t change the IRS deadline: the car must still be physically picked up by December 31 to count for this tax year. Just tell us about the condition so we can send the right tow truck.
When will I receive my tax receipt or Form 1098-C?
Your deduction year is based on the pickup date, but the written acknowledgment and, when applicable, Form 1098-C are mailed after the vehicle is sold. That sale may occur weeks after your December tow. As long as the pickup was by Dec 31, the donation applies to that tax year once you file.
How much can I deduct for my car donation?
In most cases, you can deduct the amount the vehicle actually sells for at auction or sale. Heritage for the Blind will state this on your acknowledgment or Form 1098-C. There are some exceptions (for example, certain direct-use cases), so it’s wise to review IRS Publication 4303 or speak with a tax professional.
Do I need to itemize my taxes to benefit from donating my car?
Generally, yes. To claim a federal tax deduction for your Daytona Beach car donation, you need to itemize deductions on Schedule A. If you use the standard deduction, you likely won’t claim an additional amount for the vehicle. A tax advisor can help you compare both approaches for your situation.
Is BeachMoto Aid working with a real 501(c)(3) charity?
Yes. BeachMoto Aid partners with Heritage for the Blind, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 58-2164446). Proceeds from your donated vehicle help support services for people who are blind or visually impaired. Your tax acknowledgment will reflect this qualified charitable organization for IRS purposes.
